The 2016 Legislative Committee of IL NAELA has been working hand-in-hand with our lobbyist in reviewing and opining on a myriad bills and rules.

I am pleased to announce that the efforts of NAELA's Legislative Committee (co-chaired by Heidi Dodd and Anthony Ferraro) and Appeals Committee (chaired by Tiffanny Sievers) to oppose the Department of Healthcare and Family Services' proposed Medicaid appeals revamp was successful.

The rulemaking, proposed to Joint Committee on Administrative Rulemaking (JCAR), would have thwarted the holding in Goldberg v. Kelly, but IL NAELA submitted a 50-plus legal analysis objecting to the Department's proposed rules. After more than a dozen IL NAELA members testified (along with many others) in opposition to the rules at hearings conducted in Springfield and Chicago, the Department ended up abandoning the proposed rules altogether.

Thank you to our lobbyist, Tony Abboud, the Committee chairs for their excellent leadership, and all members for their participation:
