Bio
In 2014, I opened Edelson Law, LLC, in order to focus my attention on helping families and individuals with estate planning, special needs, and elder law. My twenty plus years of experience as an attorney, and at major Chicago firms, working on sophisticated business, tax, real estate, and litigation matters enhances my ability to help you find solutions and achieve goals. My life experience also informs my law practice. Like you, I have experienced many significant life transitions, including juggling a career with young children, divorce, single parenting, remarriage, more children, blending a family, illness, injury, helping parents deal with very serious illnesses, helping friends embrace non-traditional family situations, helping friends deal with acute mental health issues, and more. I appreciate the opportunity to help you and your family, not only as a lawyer, but hopefully as a trusted friend and advisor.

Professional Activities and Associations
I currently serve as Co-Vice Chair of the American Bar Association Elder Law Section of the Real Property Trusts and Estates group. I also serve on the Illinois State Bar Association Estate Planning Section Council, and am an active member of the National Academy of Elder Law attorneys. I have made presentations on estate planning and elder law issues for the Skokie Police Department and the American Bar Association. I am also a member of the American Bar Association Trusts and Estates editorial board, and have published several articles on elder law and estate planning for both the American Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association.

Education
I graduated from the University of Chicago Law School and Graduate School of Business, where I received both J.D. and M.B.A. degrees. I will always be grateful for the outstanding legal and business education I received at the University of Chicago. I received my undergraduate degree from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York, where I studied Latin and Greek literature, history, music, and art. Attending a liberal arts college provided a wonderfully interesting and varied experience, and I continue to appreciate the kind support and encouragement of my undergraduate professors who helped guide me toward law as my profession.

Personal
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching all sports including football and basketball, riding my bike, swimming, reading mystery novels, and playing with our two wonderful dogs — Blackie, a 90-pound Labradoodle, and Ricky, a 20-pound Cockapoo. I avoid the kitchen whenever possible. I’m really good at ordering takeout.

Community
I am a board member of Chicago Yachad, an organization devoted to improving the lives of special needs children. I am also a former member of the board of the Heller Jewish Community Center.
