This presentation goes over the basics of AI in the legal field, along with practical tips regarding using AI under an ethical compass and under the Illinois Rules of Professional Responsibility. 

Brian Lambert is a Staff Attorney at Land of Lincoln Legal Aid in East St. Louis, Illinois, where he focuses on consumer protection and bankruptcy law. His practice includes Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies, debt defense litigation, and advocacy for clients facing abusive or unlawful collection practices. Brian co-chairs Land of Lincoln’s Consumer Task Force and contributes to the Technology Task Force, helping shape program-wide policies on AI use in legal services.

Brian joined Land of Lincoln in 2018 after working in private practice, where he represented debtors and assisted a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustee. He is a board member and past president of the Bankruptcy Association of Southern Illinois, and an active member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys and the St. Clair County Bar Association.

He has presented for the Illinois State Bar Association and other professional groups on topics including student loan discharge, bankruptcy and housing, senior financial exploitation, and the ethical use of AI in legal practice. His work often intersects with elder law issues, particularly in protecting older adults from scams, predatory lending, and financial instability.
